Whalebacks Beat Smelters, 4-1

Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Superior Whalebacks and Marquette Smelters.
The Superior Whalebacks picked up a win at Pig Iron Stadium, topping the Marquette Smelters, 4-1. On the mound for Superior was right-hander Juan Rivera. He played a principal role in the triumph. Rivera yielded 1 run over 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1. His record improves to 7-8. Chris Brierley recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 4 for 4.
The Whalebacks got a big at-bat from second baseman Rodrigo Aguilar. For the game, Aguilar was 3-5 with a triple and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. In the top of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 5th double of the season gave Superior a 2-1 lead.
"Banging out wins is what it's all about," said Aguilar.
Superior is 38-41 and Marquette, with the loss, 40-39.
