Peach Kings Pull Out Late Win, 8-7
|
The excitement level at Fairweather Park reached a crescendo in the final at-bat.
The Irondequoit Peach Kings beat the Syracuse Halites, 8-7, at Fairweather Park. Irondequoit designated hitter Ramón Velasques, who is tied for 5th in the EGLA in bases on balls with 41, collected 2 singles and 1 double with 3 RBI. The Peach Kings, at 60-42, have now won 12 straight.
In the bottom of the ninth, Zoilo Sánchez came to bat with the game in the balance. And he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single off Syracuse pitcher Gabino López.
"Someone different steps up for us each time out," said Gregorio Sanabria, the Irondequoit skipper.
