Lilac Stockings Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel
|
Though the conditions were not ideal, the Rochester Lilac Stockings and Irondequoit Peach Kings came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
The Rochester Lilac Stockings got a good effort from starter Josh Shields in defeating the Irondequoit Peach Kings at Fairweather Park. The final score was 1-0. Josh Mecke picked up the save, his 1st.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Raúl Echevarría? The Rochester first baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Lilac Stockings on top, 1-0. For the game, Echevarría had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Echevarría.
The third-place Lilac Stockings lifted their record to 39-39.
