Amigos Suffer 3-1 Loss to Capitanes
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Mayaguez Capitanes and Guanica Amigos.
In a low-scoring affair between the Mayaguez Capitanes and the Guanica Amigos, pitcher Mike Bellenger was the difference between victory and defeat. The Mayaguez right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-1 Capitanes win. Bellenger yielded 1 run over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 7-4.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Capitanes had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when second baseman Eneas González hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Eunosto Gutiérrez and made the score 2-1, Capitanes. González was 3 for 4 with 3 singles.
Mayaguez manager Samuel Castillo called it "a good, solid win."
Mayaguez is now 19-23.
