Companeros Rally For 5-2 Win
|
The Hormigueros Companeros topped the Maricao Ristretti, 5-2, in Liga Mariana Bracetti action at La Tacita. The standout performance belonged to Hormigueros pitcher and Bayamón, Puerto Rico, native Labán Marmolejo. Marmolejo, the winner, moves to 6-3. He threw 9 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 4 walks. The 6th-place Companeros sport a record of 18-16.
Hormigueros used the timely hitting of Esteban Reyes to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Companeros on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Reyes said his team "played with focus and determination."
