Matadioses 8-4 Winners Versus Barceloneta
|
Conditions were not ideal but Anasco and Barceloneta were able to put their game in the books.
Matadioses first baseman León Villegas left his imprint on his team's 8-4 win over the Barceloneta Marineros. Villegas was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for Anasco in the contest. Doroteo Ramírez, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-9. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 1 and walking 3.
Tied up with the Marineros in the top of the fourth inning, the Matadioses got a boost from designated hitter Leovigildo Nieto. With the bases loaded, Nieto saw a 1-2 fastball from Eliezer Rivera and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put Anasco on top, 5-3.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Villegas. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
Anasco's record now stands at 19-21, placing them first in the Liga Hostos Oeste.
