Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Locksmiths
|
Stamford starter Xavier White put a stranglehold on the Newport offense. The right-hander had complete command of his changeup in leading the Locksmiths to a 3-1 win. In 9 innings, White surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Stamford, at 56-66, holds down third place in the Southern New England Association Connecticut Circuit.
Stamford took advantage of an error in the top of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 1-1, when Antonio Mesa hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put the Locksmiths in front, 3-1.
"Xavier giving us the start that he did was huge," said Stamford manager Matías Ortega.
