Pilot Whales Get Clutch Win Versus Winchendon
The Toy Store was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Newport Pilot Whales and Winchendon Rocking Horses.

In a low-scoring clash between Newport and Winchendon, pitcher José María López was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned praise for his performance in the 3-2 Pilot Whales win. López yielded 2 runs over 10 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. His record improves to 9-4.

Newport used the timely hitting of Nuño Yañes to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Pilot Whales on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Winchendon manager Roberto Ortiz. "But we decided not to take it."

The first-place Pilot Whales have won 5 consecutive games.
