Pilot Whales Topple Locksmiths, 3-2

The rain could not dampen the enthusiasm of Newport fans at Newport Grounds.
In a low-scoring clash between Newport and Stamford, pitcher Pedro González was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned praise for his performance in the 3-2 Pilot Whales win. By defeating Stamford, the second-place Pilot Whales improved to 29-23.
A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Pilot Whales sent 19-year-old center fielder Francisco Macedo to the plate with runners on 2nd and 3rd. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a 2-run single, to put Newport on top, 3-0.
"We were in it," said Stamford manager Matías Ortega. "We just didn't score enough runs."
