Win Goes to Elms in Tight Contest
The Waterville Elms picked up a win at The Grove, taking down the Derry Spuds, 2-1, in 12 innings. On the mound for Waterville was right-hander Álvaro Piña. He played a central role in the triumph. Waterville bumps their record to 43-57 with the win.

When he batted in the bottom of the 12th, Jorge Martínez had a golden opportunity to change the game's outcome. Derry pitcher Generoso Juárez was determined not to let him. But with one out, Martínez got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run -- and the Elms had a suspense-filled triumph.

"Every loss hurts," said Derry manager Roberto Villanueva. "But this was a tough one."
