Stagecoaches Use Late Score to Top Spuds, 2-1
|
The Concord Stagecoaches picked up a win at Stagecoach Park, knocking off the Derry Spuds, 2-1. Starting pitcher Fernando Cuestas was a big reason why. Cuestas, now 4-1, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. The Stagecoaches, at 17-13, sit in first place in the Northern New England Association New Hampshire Circuit.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Martín Toro came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Derry pitcher Roodan Wilson, he hit a 1-0 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Concord on top, 2-1.
Toro said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
