The Derry Spuds downed the Waterville Elms, 2-1, at The Patch. Stellar pitching by Roodan Wilson had a lot to do with it. The left-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. Waterville falls to 1-1.

The Spuds got a big at-bat from designated hitter Big Bill Smith. For the game, Smith was 1-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 1st double of the season gave Derry a 2-0 lead.

"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Waterville manager Esteban Bruno. "We just didn't cash in."
