Marineros Surge Past Tumbabrazos to Take 1-0 Series Lead
|
The Barceloneta Marineros started the Serie Preliminar in dramatic fashion, stealing Game 1 from the Carolina Tumbabrazos in a walk-off. Barceloneta won, 3-2, behind a good day from starter Emanuel Reyes. The left-hander threw 9.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, which gave the Marineros a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-5 series.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 36-year old first baseman Rosendo Pérez had a real shot to win the game. Carolina pitcher Marco Colón was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Pérez hit a run-scoring single. The Marineros had a walk-off triumph.
"We're happy," Pérez told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Jardines de Barceloneta in Barceloneta.
