Road Win Lifts Cabo Rojo to 2-1 Lead in CLL
|
The Cabo Rojo Maravillosos moved to within one game of the Campeonato Veraniego de Principiantes, downing the Lares Gritantes on the road at Parquecito de Lares by a score of 5-1. Maravillosos left-hander Alejandro Gutiérrez had a strong outing. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball. The win gives the Maravillosos a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Campeonato de las Ligas.
Cabo Rojo used a clutch at-bat from Xavier Simmons to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Maravillosos ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Ah, the sweet taste of victory," Simmons crowed after the game.
Game 4 is scheduled for Friday at Parquecito de Lares in Lares.
