Phillies Escape Orioles in 12, Now Lead Series 4-3
The Philadelphia Phillies nearly wasted a strong game from starter Wiley Piatt, but were saved by some timely hitting in a 12th inning walk-off win over the Baltimore Orioles today.

Piatt pitched well in the 4-3 win at National League Park 1895-1909. He threw 12.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The win allowed Philadelphia to seize a 4-3 lead in the best-of-7 Inter-League Championship.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 12th inning, when Philadelphia second baseman Phil Geier, facing Mike O'Rourke, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Phillies the 4-3 win.

"You can't take yourself too seriously," Piatt told the Philadelphia Gazette. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
