Soggy conditions did not keep Traverse City and Gary from playing their scheduled game.

The Traverse City Amarelles defeated the Gary Blast Furnaces, 6-3. Designated Hitter Tommy McCarthy deserved a large share of the credit. McCarthy threw 9.0 innings of 7-hit ball for the Amarelles. McCarthy, who is tied for 4th in the WGLA in bases on balls with 10, went the distance for Traverse City. He gave up 3 runs on 7 hits.

Traverse City used the timely hitting of Gerardo de la Cruz to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Amarelles on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said de la Cruz.

Traverse City has a record of 9-10.
