Escanaba Beats Sheboygan, 3-2
|
The Escanaba Wanderers topped the Sheboygan Brats, 3-2, in Western Great Lakes Association action at The Grill. The standout performance belonged to Escanaba pitcher and Waukegan, Illinois, native Dan Thompson. Thompson, who is tied for 5th in the WGLA in innings pitched with 44.1, went the distance for Escanaba. He gave up 2 runs on 8 hits. The win brings the Wanderers to 13-5, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Jesús Arreola was a prime factor in the win for the Wanderers. In the top of the third with two out, the 26-year old second baseman hit a run-scoring single. He was 2-4 with 2 singles.
"Bottom line," said Sheboygan skipper Jerry Barger, "we didn't play well enough to win."
