With Late Score, Engines Beat Citadels
|
The Oshawa Engines downed the Kingston Citadels, 2-1, at Slammers Park. Stellar pitching by Rich Tucker had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who leads the EGLA in complete games with 4, handcuffed his opponent all game. In 9 innings, Tucker surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. The Citadels drop to 5-9.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 1-1, 18-year old right fielder Travis Copping won it for Oshawa. With a runner on 3rd, Copping hit a 1-1 fastball from Stewart Hunter for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 2-1 win.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Copping said.
