Trujillo Powers Pecan Kings to 10-5 Win
|
Demetrio Trujillo, who is tied for 6th in the FBL-EA in runs scored with 79, led Tyler to a win over Galveston. The final score was 10-5. Trujillo scored 2 times, while going 3 for 4. The first baseman also was credited with 3 runs batted in. Eladio Morán got the win, improving to 14-16. He worked 8 innings, giving up 5 runs on 11 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Tyler has a record of 72-59, placing them second in the Eastern Association Galveston Circuit.
The Gulls had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Pecan Kings going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old left fielder Ronaldo Escalera came to the plate. Escalera hit a 2-run double on a 0-1 sinker from Galveston hurler Heráclito Ornelas. It was Escalera's 35th double of the year.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Trujillo told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
