Galveston Gulls starter Cornelio Bazán turned in a sterling performance against the Nacogdoches Roaches, leading his team to a slim, 2-1 win. The winning pitcher was Bazán, now 7-16. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 2. Galveston is now 33-56.
Galveston left fielder Farón Yáñez contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a changeup to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 26th hit of the season and put the Gulls ahead, 2-0.
"It makes it a little nicer in the clubhouse when we win," said Yáñez. "It eases the tension."
