Horizons Handed 3-1 Loss by Lubbock
|
The Lubbock Layabouts downed the Amarillo Horizons, 3-1, at Lubbock Grounds. Stellar pitching by Ross Culp had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 6th in the FBL-WA in quality starts with 15, handcuffed his opponent all game. Culp, now 11-8, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 1, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. The win gives Lubbock a season record of 54-32.
The Layabouts got a clutch hit from Héctor Nava with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Nava jumped on a 1-0 cutter from Bartolomé Carrada and hit a run-scoring single, staking his club to a 2-0 lead.
"We're not exactly playing great right now," said Fred Corey, the Amarillo manager.
