Rain could not dampen the pregame excitement of Gurabo fans. But the subsequent loss, and a disappointing one at that, to the Comecocos had to.
The Luquillo Comecocos picked up a win at Parquecito de Gurabo, downing the Gurabo Escaleras, 12-0. On the mound for Luquillo was right-hander Juan Barajas, who played a pivotal role in the win. The Comecocos, now 7-0, have played some good baseball in the early going.
In the bottom of the eighth, Florencio Serrano stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Escaleras were trailing 7-0, but had the bases loaded. That's when Jesús Bernal made a terrific pitch and Serrano flied out. Gone was the dream of a Gurabo comeback.
