The Loiza Vejigantes topped the Culebra Tortugas, 9-4, in Liga Hostos action at El Recóndito. The game was highlighted by the performance of Loiza pitcher Fernando Gaona. Gaona got the win, improving to 11-11. He gave up 6 hits and walked 1 over 9 innings. He allowed 4 runs. The win makes Loiza 77-84.

Loiza used a clutch at-bat from Nicanor Flores to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Vejigantes ahead, 7-4. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"Sometimes it sounds simple, but you have to go out there and pitch and execute," said Loiza manager Édgar Reyes. "Fernando pitched his heart out."
