Capitanes Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Mofongueros, 4-3
|
The Mayaguez Capitanes gave their fans something to talk about with a thrilling, walk-off win.
Mayaguez pitcher Sílvano Flores did his part in helping his team beat the Corozal Mofongueros, 4-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Flores, who is tied for 8th in the LH with a 1.74 ERA, went the distance for Mayaguez. He gave up 3 runs on 7 hits.
When he came to bat in the bottom of the ninth, Eneas González had a chance to end it. Corozal pitcher Álvaro Piedra had other ideas. But with one out, González hit a sacrifice fly. The Capitanes had the win.
"The crowd was juiced," said González.
With the win, the Capitanes have a record of 88-56.
