Conditions were not ideal but Vieques and Barceloneta were able to put their game in the books.
Vieques turned a fine outing from starter Marcos Alcalá into a victory over the Barceloneta Marineros at Parque de Vieques. The final score was 6-1. The first-place Esqueletos, at 66-70, lead the Liga Hostos Archipiélago by 3½ games.
Diego Delgado had a big run-scoring triple for the Esqueletos in the bottom of the third inning. With Vieques leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from 35-year old right-handed pitcher Kip Larsen and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 9th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Esqueletos ahead, 2-0.
"In this profession, you've got to put the good and the bad behind you quickly," Barceloneta skipper Sócrates Cárdenas said.
