Ortiz Holds White Sox Scoreless
Friday, August 15th , 1997
All went well for Chris Ortiz of the GCL Astros as he pitched his team to a 7-0 shutout victory over the GCL White Sox, limiting them to 2 hits. In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Ortiz on the day.
"Chris's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy," said Astros manager Frank Cipriani. "He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
In the contest, the GCL right-hander rang up 7 and surrendered 1 walk.
"He didn't give us any second chances," said White Sox manager Jerry Turner. "It's a guessing game with him and today we were always guessing wrong."
In 11 starts this season, Ortiz has picked up 5 wins while suffering 4 losses. He has pitched 67.2 innings, allowed 68 hits, struck out 44 and posted a 3.72 ERA.
