Big Day for Esparragoza: Swats 5 Hits
Friday, July 2nd , 2004
Some moments become linked with a particular player's career forever. Francisco Esparragoza of the Lakeland Tigers had one of those moments when he went 5-for-5 at the plate in his team's 12-10 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Henley Field.
"I won't forget this anytime soon, and I don't expect it to happen too often," the 22-year-old catcher told reporters in the postgame interview. "I'll be happy to just get a hit or two every day. Enough to hang around the league a while longer. Like 10, maybe 15 more years."
Francisco Esparragoza singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Kyle Evans in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
For the season, Esparragoza has hit .232 with 3 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has played in 60 games and scored 18 times.
