Willis Sensational, 5-for-5
Saturday, June 12th , 2004
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Lendon Willis -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at The Joe Ballpark and paced the 10-0 RiverDogs win over the Savannah Sand Gnats.
After his dynamite batting performance, the Charleston first baseman told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."
His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. Lendon Willis doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Chad Blackwell in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.
At the moment, Willis is hitting .335 with 7 home runs and 29 RBIs. He has played in 59 games and scored 42 times.
