Best Pitcher Honor Goes to Gonzalez of Frisco

Mario Gonzalez of the Frisco RoughRiders will be adding a new centerpiece to his mantel after being tabbed for the Texas League Pitcher of the Year Award today.

The 21-year-old hurler started 25 games this season, tallying a 13-6 record. In 157.2 innings, Gonzalez gave up 96 hits, struck out 171, walked 36 and held opponents to a .172 average as he posted a fine 1.83 ERA.

He received 7 first place votes out of a possible 8. Francisco Nunez of the Frisco RoughRiders finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Paul Kometani of the San Antonio Missions finished third.
