It's Over! Portland Defeats Erie
Friday, September 25th , 2009
The Portland Sea Dogs earned their 1st Round 1 title and now have all winter to spend basking in the glory, while the beaten Erie SeaWolves will have plenty of time to wonder what went wrong.

Portland became the Eastern League champion for 2009 with a 5-2 triumph to capture the series 4-3.

"Both clubs are talented. We just made fewer mistakes than they did," winning manager Ron Blomberg said to the press corps at the postgame press conference. "We made the crucial plays and got the timely hits."

Erie skipper Dan Hartzell agreed with that assessment, saying his club turned out to be "a little weak on fundamentals" at crucial times.

"I have a sneaking suspicion we will be working on fundamentals a lot next spring," he said.

On the way to the Round 1 championship, the Sea Dogs ended up in first place in the Eastern League North and compiled a 89-54 record during the regular season.
