Jairo Asencio of the Binghamton Mets was on top of his game.

The 23-year-old tantalized the Harrisburg Senators with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.

"He had the changeup working," Harrisburg manager Joe Crissinger said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Binghamton hurler had 6 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.

Asencio told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

In 25 starts this season, Asencio has picked up 13 wins while suffering 5 losses. He has pitched 167.2 innings, allowed 131 hits, struck out 136 and posted a 2.42 ERA.
