The Minnesota Twins overcame a good performance by Chicago left fielder Marcus Thames to knock off Chicago, 9-7, at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. Thames was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The win was credited to former first overall pick Ben Sheets in relief. His record improves to 6-2. Takashi Saito took the loss. The losing streak for Chicago has now reached 5 games.

Minnesota got a knockout punch from Carlos Cruz. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"We need to keep playing good baseball," Cruz told the Minnesota Bulletin.
