Boston Edges Tampa Bay, 3-2
|
Boston Red Sox starter Heath Totten turned in a sterling performance against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, leading his team to a slim, 3-2 win. Totten, now 7-12, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 9, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Joe Smith, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 19th save.
The Red Sox got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Rafael Furcal. For the game, Furcal went 1 for 1 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 55th double of the season gave Boston a 3-2 lead.
"It wasn't a very good day at the ballpark," said Tampa Bay manager Brenton S.
Boston has now won 3 straight, while the Devil Rays have lost 3 in a row.
