The San Diego Padres stormed past the Washington Nationals, 12-3, at RFK Stadium. San Diego left fielderJarrod Saltalamacchia , who is tied for 9th in the NL with a .394 on-base percentage, led the hit parade. He went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Andy Sonnanstine, the winning pitcher, is now 9-11. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 2 and walking 2. San Diego is now 68-87.
Chase Headley's at-bat in the top of the sixth was significant, coming with runners on 1st and 2nd and the game tied, 3-3. The San Diego third baseman hit a run-scoring single off Troy Patton to put the Padres up.
Saltalamacchia told a San Diego Times reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
