Nationals Lose at Home, 5-1
|
Atlanta pitcher John Smoltz did his part in helping his team beat the Washington Nationals, 5-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Smoltz got the win, improving to 11-13. He gave up 5 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. Brian Carter got the save, his 30th in 36 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Atlanta, had it not been for Shawn Green, the 1994 Rookie of the Year Award winner . Green contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put Atlanta up, 3-1.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Green.
The Atlanta winning streak has reached 3 games.
