Orioles Come Up Short at Toronto, 7-6
|
The Toronto Blue Jays turned back the Baltimore Orioles, 7-6, at SkyDome. Ken Griffey Jr., in particular, had a fine performance. He was 3-3 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Gilbert De La Vara, 3-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. The Blue Jays are now 74-77.
With the game tied, 6-6, in the bottom of the sixth, Griffey Jr. had a key at-bat for Toronto. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Griffey Jr. hit a run-scoring single off Zach T. Jackson, making the score 7-6, Blue Jays.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Blue Jays manager Matt S. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
