Astros Rally to Win
Though he had a terrific game, Francisco Mendez could not prevent his team, the St. Louis Cardinals, from absorbing a loss. Houston won the game, 9-5. Mendez went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Houston pitcher Dana Eveland got the win, upping his record to 10-9. Chris Waters got the loss. Lee Rodney converted his 2nd save in 3 tries.

Houston used the clutch hitting of Kenji Johjima to capture the win. The catcher drilled a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Astros the lead, 4-3. For the game, Johjima had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.

"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Houston manager Mike L.

The win gives Houston a season record of 78-66.
