Chicago Dispatched, 10-4, by Florida
|
The Florida Marlins knocked off the Chicago Cubs, 10-4, in NL action at Wrigley Field. Florida pitcher and San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic, native Ervin Santana had an outstanding performance. Santana, now 6-3, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing no runs. Florida is 41-22 and Chicago, with the loss, 31-32.
In the bottom of the seventh, Oscar Salazar stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Cubs were trailing 8-3, but had the bases loaded. That's when Saul Rivera made a terrific pitch and Salazar grounded out. Gone was the dream of a Chicago comeback.
