Gonzalez Hammers 4 Homers
|
Fans at Dolphin Stadium won't soon forget the raw display of power put on by Florida Marlins left fielder Lorenzo Gonzalez. Gonzalez smashed 4 home runs in Florida's 10-8 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
"To be honest with you, I have never even thought about hitting this many home runs in a game," Gonzalez said to reporters after the game. "Only legends hit this many home runs in a game and I ain't no legend."
In his history-making performance, Gonzalez victimized Seattle hurlers for 4 hits in 5 at-bats with 4 runs scored and 9 RBIs.
"What he did was unbelievable," said Seattle manager Matthew T. "My guys gave it their best, but he hit some fine pitches. He was like -- he was in automatic home run mode today. He just had that great swing. It didn't matter what we threw him. It was gone."
Lorenzo Gonzalez hit a two-run home run off Jim Abbott in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Jim Abbott in the 3rd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Jim Abbott in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Jeriome Robertson in the 5th and flied out in the 8th.
Currently Gonzalez is batting .256 with 14 home runs, 41 RBIs and 33 runs scored.
