Mariners Get Hard-Earned Win
|
Scott Bankhead pitched well, but his team, the Toronto Blue Jays, still dropped a 3-2 decision to the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. Seattle reliever Rick Ankiel picked up the win to move to 1-1. Scott Bankhead suffered the loss. Matt Gunderson earned the save for Seattle, his 1st.
The Mariners beat the Blue Jays with some clutch hitting. The double by Luke Scott in the bottom of the eighth is a good example. With two down, Scott gave his team the lead, 3-2, when he came through with the big hit.
"I like what I saw today," said Seattle manager Matthew T, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
Seattle is in third place in the AL West Division with a record of 23-29.
