Olmstead Belts Bunch of Base Hits
|
A jubilant Walter Olmstead joined the postgame press conference at Ed Smith Stadium to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the St. Lucie Mets pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Sarasota Red Sox left fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 3-2 Red Sox win.
"He made it look easy," said Mike Corkins, manager of the Mets. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Walter Olmstead hit a solo-shot off Mike Renery in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 10th.
Olmstead has collected 28 hits for the Red Sox this year, 7 of them home runs. He has also netted 21 RBIs and scored 16 runs while batting .280.
