The Houston Astros could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Dana Eveland into a win. Instead, the San Francisco Giants prevailed, 7-6. Eveland threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Mark Woodyard recorded his 12th save for San Francisco. The Giants now have a record of 23-25 with the win over Houston.

Timely hitting helped the Giants beat the Astros. Prime example: the two-out home run Kit Pellow registered in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Peter Princi, Pellow gave his team the lead, 7-6, when he hit a 3-run home run.

"It was a nice win for our side today," said Giants manager Roman D. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
