Tigers Click Off Another Win, 6-4
|
New York got a decent performance from pitcher Chris Carpenter, but it wasn't enough to beat the Detroit Tigers. Detroit won the Yankee Stadium contest, 6-4. Carpenter threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Brandon Matheny earned the win to go to 6-1. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. John LeRoy nailed down his 14th save.
Detroit relied on the bat of Mark Kotsay to get the win. The center fielder produced a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Tigers ahead, 6-1. For the game, Kotsay had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"We're obviously playing with a lot of confidence," said Detroit manager Shane P.
The Tigers have now reeled off 6 straight wins.
