Padres Get Past Arizona, 3-2
|
Arizona got a terrific performance from pitcher Andy Pettitte, but it wasn't enough to beat the San Diego Padres. San Diego won the Bank One Ballpark contest, 3-2. Pettitte threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Alan Embree, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. Picking up the save was six-time All-Star Scott Radinsky.
Jason Giambi, who finished 3rd in the NL in RBI with 126 in 2001, had a direct impact on the outcome. Giambi contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put San Diego up, 3-2.
"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said Arizona manager Rock B.
The 4th-place Padres now sit at 18-27.
