Cincinnati Tags Montreal with 3-1 Defeat
|
Starting pitcher Tomohiro Adachi gave the Cincinnati Reds a rock-solid effort. The Hino, Japan native helped his team defeat the Montreal Expos, 3-1, at Stade Olympique/Hiram Bithorn Stadium. Adachi got the win, improving to 4-3. He gave up 5 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. Jerry Blevins got the save, the 10th for him this season.
Had Julio Lugo not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Lugo hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Reds.
"Winning makes the heart grow fonder -- for more winning," said Adachi, cracking a smile.
Cincinnati now sports a record of 26-13.
