Anaheim Loses, 4-2, in 10
|
Robert Averette, who leads the AL in quality starts with 6, had a strong outing for the Detroit Tigers against the Anaheim Angels at Angels Stadium of Anaheim. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-2 win. John LeRoy closed it out for his 7th save. The win brings the Tigers to 18-14, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Detroit used the timely hitting of Mark Kotsay to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Tigers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame remarks, Averette hailed his team's "single-minded focus."
