Rockies Come Up Short at Florida, 3-2
|
The Colorado Rockies got a sterling performance from pitcher Damian Stephens, but the Florida Marlins still prevailed, 3-2. Stephens threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The winner in relief was Byron Embry. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-1. Wayne Franklin notched his 8th save of the season.
The Marlins got a big at-bat from shortstop Alex Gonzalez. For the game, Gonzalez went 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Florida a 2-1 lead.
Gonzalez said his team "played with focus."
Florida, now 18-10, has played well in the early going.
