Guardians Nip White Sox, 7-6
|
Behind a solid performance from designated hitter Justin Turner, the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Chicago White Sox, 7-6. Turner went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Guardians. John Sneed, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. At 2-1, the Guardians have played well so far.
Stephen Smitherman's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth was significant, coming with runners on 1st and 2nd and the game tied, 6-6. The Cleveland first baseman hit a run-scoring single off Conor Brooks to put the Guardians up.
"Justin is still learning," said Guardians manager Matt B. "The sky's the limit for him."
