The Baltimore Orioles could not turn a fine performance from catcher Neil Walker into a win. Instead, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays prevailed, 6-5. Walker went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Tampa Bay reliever Steve Hoff picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Marcus Davila was tagged with the loss. The victory makes Tampa Bay 2-1.
Tampa Bay used the timely hitting of Stephen Drew to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Devil Rays on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Enjoyed this one," Drew told the Tampa Bay Bulletin. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
