Cardinals Lose to Reds, 7-2
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds get after it.
Cincinnati beat St. Louis on the strength of starting pitcher Tomohiro Adachi's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 7-2. Adachi got the win, improving to 3-2. He gave up 8 hits and walked 0 over 7.2 innings. He allowed 2 runs.
Cincinnati third baseman Jesus Rojas contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 25th hit of the season and put the Reds ahead, 5-0.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Adachi told the Cincinnati Bulletin. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
The victory makes Cincinnati 18-7, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 2004.
